Compensation and Benefits

Staff:
Anticipated Hiring Salary: $3,796 per month 

Full classification Salary Range: $3,796 to $5,369 per month

This is a full-time, probationary, non-exempt position.

 

The CSU system provides a comprehensive benefit package that includes medical, dental and vision plans, membership in the California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS), sick and vacation time, and 14 paid holidays a year. Job Summary

Under general supervision of the Associate Dean and/or Director of Lyles College of Engineering Student Services, the incumbent provides basic counseling and advising services to support the academic,  and social development of an assigned caseload of students.

 

Key Qualifications

  • Basic knowledge of the practices, procedures and activities of a university college, advising center, or similar department
  • Knowledge of study skills and retention intervention strategies
  • General understanding of the basic principles, practices and major trends in the Student Services field.
  • Ability to
    • Analyze situations accurately, adopt effective courses of action, and make appropriate and effective student referrals.
    • Serve as an advocate for students and consult with faculty, staff, and others on issues associated with student academic success.
    • Serve as a resource to students, staff and the community in responding to inquiries and providing detailed information.
    • Acquire a general knowledge of the overall operation, functions and programs of Student Services and its relationship to the total campus operation and CSU, Fresno

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in one of the behavioral sciences or job-related field
  • One year of professional experience in a student service program or in a related field providing counseling and advising service; experience should give evidence of competence and indicates the potential for further growth
    • A Master’s degree in a job-related field may be substituted for one year of professional experience

 

Department Summary

The Lyles College of Engineering is one of eight academic schools and colleges at California State University, Fresno. The college offers six nationally accredited undergraduate degree programs and five graduate level programs and options. About 1700 students are enrolled in the various programs offered in the college. This position is responsible for providing academic advisement and counseling services to support student transition to the university and retention through graduation.
