Athletics Insurance Coordinator/Area Administrative Assistant
(Administrative Support Coordinator I)

Compensation and Benefits

Anticipated Hiring Salary Range: $3,064 to $3,410 per month 

Full classification Salary Range: $3,064 to $5,148 per month

This is a full-time, probationary, non-exempt position.

The CSU system provides a comprehensive benefit package that includes medical, dental and vision plans, membership in the California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS), sick and vacation time, and 14 paid holidays a year. Job Summary

Under general supervision of the Associate Athletic Director for Sports Medicine, the position supports the Sports Medicine Department within the Athletic Department through provision of medical office support activities as well as coordination of all aspects of the student-athlete health insurance requirements and medical office operation. The position performs duties that ensures the compliance of Athletic Department and University policies relative to student-athlete health insurance, medical services, and associated medical records. This position acts as a valuable liaison to the university student health center and affiliated medical providers. This position is a vital liaison and central point of contact for all medical providers and medical facilities in the surrounding community as well as to out-of-state medical providers and student-athlete insurance companies.

Most importantly, this position is the central point person for student-athletes assistance in managing their referrals for both athletic and non-athletic preventative care referrals.

This position consistently and daily exercises discretion and confidentiality as required by federal medical privacy laws, insurance industry laws and regulations, NCAA operating bylaws and regulations as well as university and department policies and procedures in application of the below listed position responsibilities, tasks and responsibilities.


Key Qualifications

  • Knowledge of and ability to maintain current on health insurance industry practices and regulations.
  • Apply independently a wide variety of policies and procedures where specific guidelines may not exist.
  • Address a wide range of problems and situations which require interpreting policies and procedures.
  • Deal appropriately with confidential information and exercise good judgment on sensitive matters.
  • Independently handle a significant caseload, manage multiple priorities, and work effectively with people of diverse backgrounds.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships and promote a positive, service oriented collegial work environment with a variety of individuals.
  • Serve as a resource to students, staff and the community in responding to inquiries, providing detailed information and providing customer service.

Education and Experience

  • Completion of a high school program, technical/vocational program, or their equivalents.
  • Three years of related experience.
