Fresno State's School of Nursing is at the largest university in the Central San Joaquin Valley, situated between San Francisco and Los Angeles. Our accredited nursing programs offer three levels of nursing education: Baccalaureate, Masters, and Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP). We are also proud to offer a Post-Baccalaureate School Nurse Services Credential Program and a Post-Master's in Nursing Program in Family Nurse Practitioner. Our School offers state-of-the-art nursing skills and simulation laboratories in our fully equipped classrooms.

The School of Nursing is looking for an individual to take the leadership role in our School.  The Department Chair is responsible for managing course assignments, accreditation, budget, curriculum, and leading our faculty, staff, and students.

Department Chair:

The Chair is the designated administrator of the department and the academic leader of the departmental faculty. The post of Department Chair is an instructional, administrative assignment, and the assignment does not carry tenure with it. Each Department Chair serves at the pleasure of the President, reports to the respective School Dean, and serves standard terms of four (4) years.  It is the responsibility of the Department Chair to consult with the full-time departmental faculty on policy matters, plans, and procedures, which affect the department. Department Chairs, while holding tenure in the faculty position, serve as chairs at the pleasure of the President for four-year terms.


  Required Education (from an accredited institution or foreign equivalent.):

  1. An earned doctorate (Ph.D.) in nursing, Ed.D., or Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP)
  2. APRN license with national certification in the area of practice/specialty

  Required Experience:

  1. Must be tenured as Associate Professor or Full Professor and serving in the position for at least three years.   
  2. Experiences with accreditation such as State Board of Registered Nursing (BRN) and Collegiate College Nursing Education (CCNE). 
  3. Leadership experience in varying levels of nursing programs
  4. Demonstrated commitment to working effectively with faculty, staff, and students from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds.

  Preferred Experience:

  1. Experience working with various nursing programs such as BSN, RN to BSN, MSN, Doctorate, post-baccalaureate and post-certificate.
  2. Board certified as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN)
  3. A record of active participation or leadership roles in relevant professional organizations
  4. Experience with online nursing education programs

School of Nursing Mission:

The mission of the School of Nursing is to offer quality nursing education to undergraduate and graduate nursing students.  This education prepares nurses with clinical decision-making skills based on Evidence-Based Practice (EBP).  Additionally, the School of Nursing seeks to establish an academic foundation for Advanced Practice Nursing and Doctoral preparation.
