(Administrator I)

Compensation and Benefits

Anticipated hiring salary is $70,000 - $73,000 and is competitive and negotiable depending on the strength of qualifications. This is a CSU Management Personnel Plan (MPP) position.

The CSU system provides a comprehensive benefit package that includes medical, dental and vision plans, membership in the California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS), sick and vacation time, and 14 paid holidays a year. Job Summary

Under the general supervision of the Director of Brand Strategy and Marketing, the Associate Director of Brand Strategy and Marketing will play a critical role in developing and executing the university marketing plan to shape and manage the Fresno State’s brand, build awareness, inspire engagement and philanthropy, and position the University regionally, nationally and globally. The incumbent serves a strategic role in the conception and execution of University-wide marketing and philanthropic campaigns, targeting various audiences including: the campus community, prospective students, current students, staff and faculty, alumni, donors, opinion leaders and the general public.

In addition, the Associate Director of Marketing is responsible for all digital and online marketing efforts for the University, including managing the fresnostate.edu website, email marketing and other digital tactics in coordination with the Brand Strategy and Marketing team and various campus leaders.

This managerial position is covered by the Management Personnel Plan. Supervisory duties include interviewing, selecting and training of employees in University Brand Strategy and Marketing; directing their work; appraising their productivity and efficiency for the purpose of recommending retention, handling or recommending resolution to their complaints and grievances and recommending disciplinary action when necessary; planning the work; determining the techniques to be used; proportioning the work among the employees; determining the types of materials, supplies, or equipment to be used.

 

Key Qualifications

  • Advanced knowledge of marketing functions, including marketing strategy/planning, direct marketing, event marketing, campaign marketing, collateral and video production, online and social media marketing, and traditional marketing channels and techniques. 
  • Expert knowledge of communications and marketing objectives and ability to translate them both orally and in written format for effective communications and marketing campaigns.
  • Demonstrated ability to create, develop, and implement comprehensive long and short-term strategic marketing plans.
  • Experience discovering and composing compelling stories that not only convey but also humanize institutional messages and priorities through powerful narrative.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply content strategy, marketing and branding best practices, as well as institutional identity standards, to the development of branded experiences, events, initiatives and campaigns.
  • Demonstrated experience working with marketing principles and practice as they relate to print and digital communications and marketing.
  • Expert networking and interpersonal skills, including strong consultative and persuasive skills to work with internal and external constituents.
  • Demonstrated leadership and experience motivating and managing a team.
  • Ability to use tact and diplomacy to effectively handle a broad range of high level and sensitive interpersonal situations with diverse personalities and to respond appropriately to conflicts and problems.
  • Ability to initiate, establish, and foster communication and teamwork by maintaining a positive and productive work atmosphere in the University.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships within a diverse population and with those from various cultural backgrounds.
  • Knowledge of using iModules, Marketo or similar marketing automation systems for internal and external communications.
  • Knowledge of using Omni Update Campus or a similar content management system to manage website updates.
  • Knowledge of using various social media channels (standard and emerging platforms).
  • Knowledge of general practices, methods and procedures related to marketing and communications.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Psychology, Public Relations, Business, Journalism, English or equivalent
    discipline in a related field.
  • Minimum of four years of recent, increasingly responsible professional experience in marketing, public relations,
    communications, or agency environment; a combination of education and directly related experience will be
    considered.
    • Specialized Skills:
      • Knowledge of accessibility standards and web requirements.
    • Preferred Skills:
      • Minimum of two years of supervisory experience demonstrating the capacity to successfully direct and lead a team.
      • Previous experience working in a higher education setting.
      • Previous experience working in philanthropy and executing marketing campaigns aimed at increasing private support for an organization.
      • User-experience of iModules s for internal and external email communications.
      • User-experience of Omni Update Campus for website development/editing/design.
