(Administrative Support Assistant II)

Compensation and Benefits

Anticipated Hiring Salary: $3,120 per month

Full classification Salary Range:  $3,120 - $4,592 per month

  • This is a full-time (equivalent to 40 hours per week), probationary, non-exempt position.

The CSU system provides a comprehensive benefit package that includes medical, dental and vision plans, membership in the California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS), sick and vacation time, and 14 paid holidays a year. Job Summary

Under the general supervision of the chair of the Department of Public Health, and lead direction of the Administrative Support Coordinator, this position provides clerical support to the Department of Public Health which consists of fifteen full-time and 21 part-time faculty. This position has direct contact with all department faculty, students, other campus staff and visiting community members as guest speakers.


Key Qualifications

    • General working knowledge of applicable university infrastructure, policies, and procedures
    • Thorough knowledge of office methods, procedures, and practices
    • Fluency in using standard office software packages (Microsoft Office Suite, Google, email, calendar, etc.)
    • Thorough knowledge of English grammar, punctuation, and spelling
    • Active problem solving and effective interpersonal skills

    Skill/Ability to:

    • Demonstrated ability to:
      • Work with frequent interruptions and under pressure of deadlines.
      • Use standard office equipment.
      • Use standard word processing and related computer software packages.
      • Identify and solve standard problems and refer more complex problems to appropriate staff.
      • Perform basic arithmetic functions of a transactional nature, including tracking and comparing data.
      • Use fundamental writing and presentation skills to effectively communicate standard information.
      • Respond to routine inquiries and explain standard policies and procedures to others.
      • Use active problem solving and effective communication and interpersonal skills as the work often involves front line contacts with a variety of campus and community individuals.
      • Understand, interpret, and communicate procedures, policies, information, ideas, and instructions.
      • Reference and apply University policies and procedures.
      • Manage and set priorities.
      • Apply independent judgment and be a creative problem-solver.
    • Ability to maintain effective work relationships with faculty, student and staff from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds.

    • Learn, interpret independently, and apply a variety of complex policies and procedures; able to identify deviations from applicable policies.

Education and Experience

  • Completion of a high school program or its equivalent
