Compensation and Benefits

Anticipated Hiring Salary: $1,560 per month ($3,120 full-time equivalent)

Full classification Salary Range: $3,120 - $4,592 per month

  • This is a part-time (equivalent to 20 hours per week), probationary, non-exempt position.

The CSU system provides a comprehensive benefit package that includes medical, dental and vision plans, membership in the California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS), sick and vacation time, and 14 paid holidays a year. Job Summary

Under the general supervision of the Chair of the Department and lead direction of the Administrative Support Coordinator, the incumbent performs clerical assignments, which require a thorough knowledge of methods, procedures and policies. Assignments are varied and range from routine to complex. A thorough knowledge of a wide variety of office automation is required.

The primary purpose of this position is to provide a full range of moderate to complex clerical and secretarial assignments involving the use of judgement and discretion. Projects are of moderate scope and complexity, such as completion of small to medium sized projects. Day to day work performed relatively independently with general instruction, except for new assignments. This position supports the administrative needs of the Department Chairman and the Administrative Support Coordinator.


Key Qualifications

  •  Thorough knowledge of office methods, procedures, practices and the ability to use a broad range of technology and systems.
    • Thorough knowledge of English grammar, punctuation and spelling.
    • Ability to perform standard arithmetic functions of a transactional nature, including tracking and comparing data.
    • Demonstrated competence in understanding, interpreting, and communicating procedures, policies, information, ideas and instructions.
    • Ability to apply independent judgment, discretion and initiative to address problems and develop practical, thorough and creative solutions.
    • Fluency in using standard office software packages including Microsoft Excel and Word.

Education and Experience

  • A high school diploma, technical/vocational program, or their equivalents combined with several years of related office work experience.
  • Two or more years of work experience with progressively responsible clerical experience.
    • Preferred Skills:
      • Demonstrated skill and ability to use advanced features of Microsoft Excel and Word to track funds and develop reports.
      • Knowledge of PeopleSoft Procedures.
      • Knowledge of processing independent study forms.
      • Demonstrated ability to review financial documents for accuracy, completeness, validity and adherence to standards.
      • Ability to compute and post figures rapidly and accurately, maintain files and records, and identify, trace and correct errors.
      • Knowledge of applicable university infrastructure, policies and procedures.
      • Knowledge of the University’s articulation process.
      • Knowledge of the ALEKS web database.
      • Knowledge of social media platforms and survey databases.
      • Knowledge of Webpage editing.
