Compensation and Benefits

Anticipated Hiring Salary Range: $3,120 - $3,276 per month

Full classification Salary Range: $3,120 - $4,592 per month

  • This is a full-time (equivalent to 40 hours per week), probationary, non-exempt position.

The CSU system provides a comprehensive benefit package that includes medical, dental and vision plans, membership in the California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS), sick and vacation time, and 14 paid holidays a year. Job Summary

Under the general supervision of the Farm Manager, the purpose of this position is to provide excellent customer service as the first point of contact for the Agricultural Operations/University Agricultural Laboratory (UAL) office, to coordinate the UAL vehicle and equipment scheduling, provide accurate and timely data entry for chargebacks and billing in the MetaBIM system, receive farm maintenance requests and prepare necessary work orders, prepare correspondence, assist UAL staff and students with requests, and provide clerical and organizational support for the UAL Agricultural Operations office.

 

Key Qualifications

  • General working knowledge of applicable university infrastructure, policies and procedures.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with others, exercise tact, courtesy, alertness, and good judgement in responding to others.
  • Proficiency in use of computer to produce correspondence, reports and special projects.
  • Thorough knowledge of office methods, practices and procedures.
  • Experience in Microsoft Office Suite, Google applications; E-mail and electronic calendars for setting up meetings as well as email and calendaring systems.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to write correct English, free of grammatical, spelling and punctuation errors.
  • Ability to:
    • Identify and solve standard problems and refer more complex problems to appropriate staff.
    • Perform complex clerical work accurately using standard office equipment.
    • Learn, interpret and apply a wide variety of complex written policies and procedures.
    • Perform standard arithmetic functions of a transactional nature, including tracking and comparing data.
    • Work in a team environment supporting all of the Ag Operations diverse objectives.
    • Present standard information in writing.
    • Compile and summarize data for report generation.
    • Maintain confidentiality.
    • Plan and organize clerical work utilizing a variety of methods while working under pressure of deadlines.
    • Work with frequent interruptions.
    • Establish priorities and determine deadlines.
    • Work on several tasks simultaneously.
    • Apply independent judgment, initiative and discretion to address problems and develop practical, thorough and, at times, creative solutions in performing work.
    • Understand the student assistant hiring and volunteer processes.
    • Work with faculty, students, staff and administrators from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Desire and ability to work in a flexible and collaborative manner.

Education and Experience

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Two years of recent progressively responsible clerical experience.
    • Preferred Skills
      • Possess practical knowledge of basic plant and animal agriculture as well as knowledge of all common agricultural equipment and modern agricultural practices and terminology.
      • Demonstrated ability to use or learn MetaBIM, Gasboy, and Peoplesoft computer programs.
