Compensation and Benefits

Anticipated Hiring Salary Range: $80,232 - $82,000 per year

Full CSU Classification Salary Range: $80,232 - $155,364 per year

  • This is a full-time, probationary, exempt position.

The CSU system provides a comprehensive benefit package that includes medical, dental and vision plans, membership in the California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS), sick and vacation time, and 14 paid holidays a year. Job Summary

Under the general direction of the Director of Brand Strategy and Marketing, the Video Producer produces high-profile multimedia productions that elevate Fresno State’s brand, build awareness, inspire engagement and philanthropy, and position the University regionally, nationally and globally. The incumbent supports the Office of Brand Strategy and Marketing and University Advancement by serving a strategic role in conceptualizing and developing multimedia programs that educate, inspire and engage internal and external audiences including: the campus community, prospective students, current students, staff and faculty, alumni, donors, opinion leaders and the general public. The Video Producer works closely with members of the University Advancement team and partners across campus, in a self-motivated capacity, to oversee all aspects of video production for complex productions in film, television, radio, video or other multimedia.

The Video Producer is accountable for all technical, aesthetic and programmatic components of productions, managing complex projects and assignments, working with graphic designers and writers in the preproduction, production and postproduction phases of the project. This position should be comfortable multitasking and working on shorter projects with tight deadlines along with long-term video campaigns.

The position requires a broad and thorough understanding of videography, design theory, communications principles, strategies and tactics, comprehensive technical knowledge, digital storytelling, strong aesthetic and editorial sensibilities, the ability to work effectively with collaborators from a wide range of campus units, and strong skills in leading projects and people. The Video Producer will either work independently or as part of a team, interact directly with students, faculty, staff, and alumni, donors and friends of Fresno State, operate equipment, scout locations and adapt to conditions all while maintaining high quality standards.

This position must be aware of new trends in video production and incorporate those trends into video content, as well as keep up-to-date with the ever-evolving video styles unique to platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, video streaming and other new media trends. The incumbent should also have a passion for the video industry, with knowledge on current trends outside of the industry and be open to inspiration from others to enhance the team’s overall creativity.

The Video Producer should be comfortable multitasking and meeting tight deadlines, with a meticulous eye on quality control of the final product. This position manages assignments and allocates time to duties mentioned below based upon direction from the Director of Brand Strategy and Marketing. The Director will communicate priorities and time allocation.  

 

Key Qualifications

  • Direct customer support related to digital video project scoping, development, and production.
  • End-to-end video production beginning with discussions and brainstorming with the client, and ending with finished video delivered to client in appropriate format.
  • Experience with video storyboarding, shooting, editing and publishing.
  • Knowledge of design theories and user interface design principles with the ability to conceptualize and produce storytelling video productions.
  • Ability to develop and create multimedia/video productions.
  • Ability to plan projects, coordinate resources, and work effectively with a team.
  • Non-linear digital video editing using Final Cut Pro or Adobe Premiere Pro.
  • Knowledge of captioning and accessibility techniques and systems.
  • Experience with live and on-demand streaming video.
  • Video codecs and ability to recommend appropriate video format for desired end product.
  • Experience with lighting and audio set-up and strike.
  • Demonstrated ability to work and communicate with users to effectively identify and efficiently meet their requirements.
  • Extensive knowledge of and ability to evaluate multimedia applications, including emerging and new digital trends, the latest in video equipment, best practices in video production, and multimedia publishing techniques.
  • In-depth understanding of the audience and visual communication strategies/methods.
  • Self-motivation and the ability to establish cooperative working relationships with others.
  • Subject matter expertise in the specialized discipline of multimedia or body of knowledge.
  • Can provide a portfolio of video projects as the lead producer that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed above.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, film/video production, art/design, or related field.
  • Five years’ experience in direct customer support related to digital video project scoping, development and production, or, equivalent combination of education and experience.
    • Preferred Experience:
      • Experience producing videos for web and social media.
      • Experience producing video projects in a fast-paced environment with short turnaround times.
      • Experience in higher education.
