The Department of Music boasts a full spectrum of activities in option concentrations of Music Education, Instrumental Performance, Vocal Performance, Composition, and Jazz Studies, with performance specializations in voice, instrumental wind, brass, string, percussion and piano. We are recognized as a growing music department with students from across the California Central Valley region.

The department is considering temporary faculty openings in the following:
Instructor Responsibility: Temporary faculty members are responsible for adherence to and implementation of university and system-wide policies as directed per Academic Policy Manual 306, paragraph 2. Instructors are responsible for the preparation, delivery, conducting, proctoring, and grading (as appropriate) lectures, office hours, homework assignments, quizzes, class projects, and midterm and final exams. All classes must be offered and meet as scheduled throughout the entire semester, in the mode assigned and listed in the in the schedule of classes (i.e. asynchronous, synchronous, in-person, or hybrid).
Please be advised that an appointment is contingent upon budget and enrollment considerations and subject to the order of assignment provisions in the collective bargaining agreement between California State University and California Faculty Association. These provisions state the “Order of Work,” or the order in which available courses must be assigned to faculty, starting with tenure line faculty and ending with new lecturer appointees.
Appointees will be required to demonstrate eligibility to work in the United States (Fresno State is not a sponsoring agency for Temporary Faculty positions).
Salary Range - Commensurate with experience within ranks established by the CSU Salary Schedule (Lecturer AY-2358)
The temporary faculty pool is continuously open, and positions are filled as needed, based on student enrollment and funding. This is a pool of part-time lecturers for the department to draw on as necessary. The number of positions varies from semester to semester, depending on the needs of the Department. Appointments from the pool are temporary and often made just prior to the start of the academic term. Applicants may need to be available to begin teaching on short notice. The pool will remain in place for two academic terms; those interested in remaining in the pool beyond that time must reapply.

Required Qualifications for all areas:
Education (from an accredited institution or foreign equivalent.): A Master's degree in Music with an emphasis in music composition.
Experience: Candidates are expected to demonstrate a commitment to and potential teaching excellence at the university level as follows:
- Candidates must demonstrate a high level of music composition skill and be active as an accomplished professional composer, orchestrator, and/or arranger.
- Must have the ability to recruit and retain students.
- Must be able to maintain excellent relations with both public and private educators in the area you are being considered.
- Must have the ability to work effectively with faculty, staff, and students from diverse ethnic, cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.
Preferred Qualifications for all areas:
- Education: A doctorate in the area you are being considered.
- Preference will be given to candidate with a distinguished professional background and successful university teaching or comparable experience.
*Additional experience requirements for composition applicants:
- Candidates must have experience teaching music composition or music theory at the university level or comparable experience.
- Candidates must have familiarity with a broad range of contemporary music styles and approaches, including knowledge of contemporary composers and ensembles.
