Compensation and Benefits

Anticipated Hiring Salary Range: $4,879 - $5,123 per month

Full CSU Classification Salary Range: $4,879 - $6,950 per month

  • This is a full-time, probationary, exempt position.

The CSU system provides a comprehensive benefit package that includes medical, dental and vision plans, membership in the California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS), sick and vacation time, and 14 paid holidays a year. Job Summary

Under the general direction of the Associate Director of Student Involvement, this position coordinates programming for and supports the social Greek-letter organizations and their governing councils along with the Inclusive Leadership development of that community and the campus community. The position assists in providing guidance for the University’s diverse and dynamic fraternity and sorority community and leadership development for the campus. The position supervises the Graduate Assistant for Fraternity and Sorority Life. 

 

Key Qualifications

  • Knowledge of social Greek-letter organizations and the developmental needs of the student participants and leaders.
  • Knowledge of college student development theory, theories and models of leadership development, and community building techniques.
  • General knowledge of the principles, practices and trends of the Student Affairs and Student Engagement field as well as general knowledge of campus and CSU policies, procedures and practices.
  • Thorough knowledge of individual counseling techniques, student success strategies and retention intervention strategies.
  • Knowledge of computer office systems and ability to use a broad range of technology, systems, and software packages (Microsoft Office Suite, Google apps).
  • Skill/Ability to:
    • To foster effective working relationships with student leaders.
    • Facilitate dialogue, prepare and deliver public presentations, and construct learning activities.
    • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication.
    • Multicultural and intercultural competencies to support the needs of diverse populations.
    • Proficiency in use of technology, the internet and web-based forms.
    • Plan related events and programs for student organizations, including recruitment related activities, lectures and trainings.
    • Advise students individually and in groups on complex student related matters and determine appropriate courses of action.
    • Appropriately and professionally interact with students, faculty and other support staff and apply proper techniques while engaged with individuals in personal interactions of an argumentative or sensitive nature.
    • Reason logically and use sound judgment and problem-solving skills to recommend creative, effective, and practical solutions.
    • Obtain factual and interpretative information through interviews.
    • Collect, compile, analyze and evaluate data and make verbal or written presentations based on data.
    • Effectively organize and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced team-oriented environment.
    • Demonstrated commitment to diversity and ability to recognize value systems and work accordingly.
    • Carry out a variety of professionally complex assignments without detailed instructions.
    • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with faculty, CSU Administrators, student organizations, private and public agencies and others in committee and student advising and community contacts.
    • Ability to be responsive, innovative, results oriented, and student centered in helping students fulfill their academic program requirements and meeting campus goals.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration or a job-related field, including or supplemented by upper division or graduate coursework in counseling techniques, interviewing, and conflict resolution.
  • Equivalent of three years of progressively responsible professional student services work experience.  One year of experience in the practices, procedures, and administration of social Greek-letter organizations and leadership development programming.
  • A Master's degree in a job-related field may be substituted for one year of the professional experience.  A doctorate degree and the appropriate internship or clinical training in counseling or guidance may be substituted for the three years of experience for positions with a major responsibility for professional career or personal counseling.
    • Preferred Skills:
      • Master's degree in Higher Education Student Affairs, College Student Development, College Counseling, Clinical Psychology, Social Work, Educational Leadership strongly preferred.
      • Membership in a social Greek-letter organization strongly preferred.
      • Experience working with OrgSync/Engage, CampusDirector, and PeopleSoft.
      • Prior higher education experience working with students, student leaders, advisors, student clubs and organizations is strongly preferred.
      • Prior higher education experience producing co-curricular student development/learning experiences to individual students, members and leaders of student organizations, and other targeted student subpopulations is strongly preferred.
