Compensation and Benefits
Anticipated Hiring Salary Range: $3,900 - $4,500 per month
Full CSU Classification Salary Range: $3,815 - $6,620 per month
- This is a full-time (equivalent to 40 hours per week), probationary, non-exempt position.
The CSU system provides a comprehensive benefit package that includes medical, dental and vision plans, membership in the California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS), sick and vacation time, and 15 paid holidays a year. Job Summary
Reporting to the Dean of the Division of Research and Graduate Studies (DRGS) and under the leadwork direction of the Coordinator of Graduate Student Success and Financial Opportunities, the primary purpose of the position is to provide comprehensive support services, independently and as a team, through the Graduate Student Success Center (GSSC). This position assists in leading the GSSC, which provides services to one or more related disciplines and support for student and faculty research activities and graduate study. This position includes scheduling and administration of Instructional Student Assistants (ISAs) to ensure that they provide supplemental writing and statistical support and guidance to Fresno State graduate students in all post baccalaureate programs. In addition, the position provides general support for all graduate students through consultations, workshops, and writing groups.
Key Qualifications
- Thorough knowledge of English grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
- Knowledge of the materials, supplies, and student support services to support curriculum programs served.
- Knowledge of the principles and methods related to performing support services.
- Knowledge of the principles; information, methods, and techniques related to providing supplemental writing and statistics support and guidance in the GSSC.
- Knowledge of writing from a wide range of academic disciplines.
- Knowledge of computer office systems and ability to use a broad range of technology, systems, and software packages (Microsoft Office Suite, Google, social media).
- Skill/Ability to:
- Ability to work effectively with students from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
- Ability to provide resources and support to graduate students working on dissertations, thesis, projects, essays, and other academic/professional writing requirements.
- Ability to plan, organize, and schedule work.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships and promote a positive, service oriented collegial work environment with a variety of individuals.
- Ability to serve as a resource to students, staff, and the community in responding to inquiries and providing detailed information concerning campus news and events.
- Ability to be responsive, innovative, results oriented, and student centered in helping students fulfill their academic program requirements.

Education and Experience
- Equivalent to four years of work experience in providing academic and/or professional writing support to graduate-level students of varying skill levels.
- Equivalent to two years of college with 16 semester units in courses in a related discipline may be substituted for one year of the required experience OR
- Equivalent to four years of college with 16 semester units in courses in a related discipline may be substituted for the experience.
- Specialized Skills:
- Thorough knowledge of current documentation styles and manuals from a variety of academic disciplines.
- Preferred Skills:
- Master’s Degree, MFA, or Teaching Credential or Doctorate in writing/composition, education, literature, psychology, or in a related field is preferred.
- Experience with one-on-one advisement of graduate-level students regarding academic and professional writing.
