(Extended Education Specialist I)

Compensation and Benefits

Anticipated Hiring Salary Range: $4,813 - $5,054 per month

Full CSU Classification Salary Range: $4,813 - $6,851 per month

  • This is a full-time, probationary, exempt position.

The CSU system provides a comprehensive benefit package that includes medical, dental and vision plans, membership in the California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS), sick and vacation time, and 15 paid holidays a year. Job Summary

Reporting to the Director of Programming in the Division of Continuing and Global Education (CGE), the incumbent is part of a team responsible for planning, developing, and implementing extended education programming. The incumbent fulfills these responsibilities by building and leveraging relationships with University faculty and staff, local companies, organizations, agencies, and community stakeholders.

The Extended Education Coordinator maintains a portfolio of programs including, but not limited to, extended education academics (degrees, credentials, and certificates), extension credit, and dual enrollment for local high school students.

CGE is the self-supporting academic arm of California State University, Fresno. Self-supporting academic programs do not receive state general fund appropriations and instead collect non-state student fees that are adequate to meet the cost of maintaining operations in the long run.


Key Qualifications

  • Knowledge of the procedures and practices in educational programs and curriculum planning.
  • Knowledge of the resources of the campus and the surrounding community.
  • Knowledge of the processes required to plan and construct academic programs and course outlines.
  • Ability to determine needs for new or revised programs and plan course hours and credit.
  • Ability to locate instructors and assist them with developing course outlines.
  • Ability to assist instructors with understanding and completing contract arrangements.
  • Ability to manage the logistics of providing classes.
  • Ability to develop budgets, analyze costs, and maintain cost information and records.
  • Ability to write promotional materials and develop a variety of promotional techniques.
  • Ability to represent the CSU system to the community and develop working relationships.

Education and Experience

  • Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university.
  • Equivalent to two years of experience in planning classes or programs in a specialized field or area, preferably in higher, extended, or adult education.
    • Teaching experience in higher or extended education may be substituted for experience on a year-for-year basis.
  • Preferred Qualifications:
    • Experience with higher education catalog and curriculum management systems.
      • Specific experience with PeopleSoft Curriculum Management is a plus.
    • Experience with the CSU system.
      • Specific experience with Fresno State is a plus.
    • Experience with Fresno area business and professional organizations.
    • Experience with Fresno area school districts.
    • Working knowledge of high school/college dual enrollment operations and processes.
    • Working knowledge of higher education admissions requirements and processes.
      • Specific knowledge of California State University admissions is a plus.
