The Department of Civil & Geomatics Engineering is searching for a faculty member in the area of Geomatics Engineering to teach undergraduate and graduate courses and laboratories, conduct scholarly activity and applied research, mentor undergraduate and graduate students, and engage in service-related activities at all levels of the University. We seek applications from individuals who can contribute to the quality of Lyles College of Engineering’s academic programs in the broad area of Geomatics Engineering. The tenure-track faculty position will be expected to:

  • Contribute to the instructional programs in the broad areas of Geomatics engineering by teaching undergraduate and graduate courses,
  • Mentor undergraduate and graduate students,
  • Actively pursue grants and contracts and conduct research in Geomatics Engineering,
  • Collaborate with faculty members in the Lyles College of Engineering and Fresno State,
  • Help develop short-term courses, workshops, and seminars
  • Assist with growing enrollment in the Geomatics Engineering undergraduate program
  • Assist with growing enrollment in the Civil Engineering Graduate Program (Umbrella for both Civil Engineering and Geomatics Engineering)
  • Engage in service activities at all levels of the university and community
  • Specific assignments will depend on department and college needs.

Qualifications:

Required Education:

  • An earned doctorate (PhD) in Geomatics Engineering or closely related field from an accredited institution. Applicants nearing completion of the doctorate (ABD) will be considered; however, for appointment, the doctorate must be completed by August 18, 2026 OR
  • An earned master (MS) in Geomatics Engineering or closely related field from an accredited institution and at least 5 years of experience in Geomatics Engineering or a closely related field. The master’s degree and experience must be completed by August 18, 2026.

Required Qualifications:

  1. The ability to work effectively with faculty, staff, and students. The University is committed to promoting the success of all.  Candidates who can contribute to all students’ success are encouraged to apply and identify their strengths and experiences in this area;.
  2. demonstrated ability to teach a variety of geomatics engineering courses;
  3. demonstrated ability to develop an externally funded research agenda; and
  4. demonstrated ability to conduct scholarly activity.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. PhD in Geomatics Engineering or a closely related field
  2. Undergraduate and/or graduate teaching experience and demonstration of effective teaching pedagogies
  3. A professional license as a Professional Land Surveyor (PLS), preferably in the state of California
  4. Experience in developing and leading external grants
  5. Experience in research and scholarly activities, such as publishing academic and professional works. 
  6. A record of active participation or leadership roles in relevant professional organizations
  7. Experience in serving or leading student organizations or activities
  8. Professional certificates or licensures related to Geomatics Engineering (i.e. Certified Photogrammetrist, Certified Federal Surveyor…etc) 
  9. A record of community service

Commensurate with education and experience the anticipated hiring range is $7,500-$7,800 per month for Assistant Professor (12 monthly payments per year).  Salary placement is dependent on the appointee’s qualifications and experience. About the College, Department, and Program:

Fresno State has offered engineering courses since 1922. The Lyles College of Engineering currently offers seven undergraduate degree programs and five graduate degree programs and/or options. The Geomatics Engineering program at Fresno State is the first ABET accredited program in the nation. It is the only standalone 4-year program in the state of California. The department of Civil and Geomatics Engineering currently has seventeen (17) tenured/tenure track faculty and enrollment of 508 students. The department offers ABET accredited BS degrees in Civil Engineering, and Geomatics Engineering, and MS degrees in Civil Engineering and a Survey Engineering minor. Geomatics Engineering Faculty have a wide range of experience covering broad areas of land surveying, remote sensing, photogrammetry, geodesy, and geographic information systems. The Geomatics Engineering Program has a close relationship with industry vendors which have provided and will provide all necessary equipment for the teaching of and success of the students. Faculty research is funded by federal, state and regional agencies and industry. Graduates of the department are in high demand. The department has established strong relationships with a variety of industry partners and receives strong support from the regional industry.
