Lecturer Pool, International Relations

The Department of International Relations at San Francisco State University invites applications for part-time lecturer pool (non-tenure track) in International Relations for Fall 2023 and Spring 2024. Candidates with demonstrated success in teaching a diverse student body through the use of innovative teaching pedagogies and materials are encouraged to apply. Candidates who already hold terminal degrees (such as a Ph.D.) in their fields are preferred, but applicants in the later stages of their programs will also be considered.

 

The Department of International Relations at San Francisco State University was founded in 1936, the oldest independent IR Department in the United States. Focused on innovative theory, research and scholarship in international affairs, the department uses interdisciplinary approaches to global politics on issues such as climate change, human rights, international security, global migration, international political economy and sociopolitical change on a global scale. Our diverse body of students engage in challenging academics, work closely with professors, and serve in global internships. We encourage intellectual collaborations within the department, as well as across the field of international relations as an affiliate of the Association of Professional Schools in International Affairs (APSIA).

 

Courses available for instruction may include IR 104 Introduction to International Relations, IR 312 International Political Economy, IR 310 US Foreign Policy, and elective courses on International security and international organizations among others. Please note that most of our classes are expected to be held face-to-face on campus. The start and end dates of the semester can be found at the following link: https://webapps.sfsu.edu/public/webcal/acadcalendar  The times and dates of teaching will be dependent on the needs of the department at the time of hire.

  • A current Curriculum Vitae (including details of current and previous teaching experience: date of teaching, institution, class-size)
  • The names, addresses, phone-numbers and emails of two professional references who are in a position to comment on the applicant’s current or previous teaching experience. 

 

Upon receipt of these materials, some applicants may be asked for additional materials, such as sample syllabi and any past student or peer course evaluations. Applications will be accepted up until classes start or until the position is filled.
