Mail Clerk

RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:

Under general supervision, the work is performed with general instruction. Receives and sorts mail for distribution. Pick-ups and delivers mail to the local USPS office, on a daily basis. Delivers USPS and inter-office mail to various distribution points on campus. Collects campus mail from various collection boxes. Processes and sends outgoing mail utilizing postal procedures. Processes air freight and overnight shipments. Monitors postage meter and other operating supplies to ensure availability. Maintains records on incoming registered, insured, certified, special delivery and express mail. Prepares postal reports. Maintains a clean work area.

REQUIREMENTS OF POSITION: 

Experience: Familiarity with USPS regulations and some experience in a route delivery.  

Other Knowledge/Skills: General knowledge of USPS methods and practices including packing and shipping a wide variety of parcels. General knowledge of office methods, supplies, and equipment, working knowledge of current postage rates. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office software, such as Excel, Word, and Outlook.

Read and write at a level appropriate for the duties of the position. Make arithmetic computations. Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with suppliers and CSUCI staff, faculty, and students. Ability to successfully complete the Defensive Driver Training Program. Must posses and maintain in good standing a valid California Driver’s license. Must be able to accommodate a work schedule that varies according to operational needs which may include evening and weekend hours. This position requires full range of motion, and a variety of movements necessary to perform manual labor, including but not limited to lifting and moving moderate sized equipment up to 35 lbs., bending, climbing, reaching, and applying force. Work may involve exposure to hazardous materials.

A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a position with the CSU. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the application status of applicants or continued employment of current CSU employees who apply for the position.

The person holding this position is considered a ‘mandated reporter’ under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 Revised July 21, 2017 as a condition of employment.

Hiring Range:  $3,680 - $3,700 per month
