Job Summary
Under the general supervision of the Facilities Projects Supervisor, perform a wide variety of skilled work with no technical supervision required. This will include performing project related alterations and repairs as well as new installations of mechanical and building systems. As a Project Service Carpenter, you will also be required to assist in the performance of work in other trades and disciplines at a non-journey level to support the Project Services staff as well as perform other duties as assigned.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform skilled carpentry work to support new construction, repairs and renovations. This will include but is not limited to layout and installation of walls, floors, ceilings, doors, windows, roofs, counters, cabinets, structural steel, reinforcing steel, concrete, asphalt, T-bar, VCT, carpet, window coverings, tile etc. Ability to read and interpret blueprints and create detailed sketches is necessary. Layout and install counters - solid surface, tile, laminate etc.
- Lead a crew of skilled multi-discipline journeymen involved in completing project work that includes job lay out and coordinating assigned tasks, ensuring safety, efficiency, and adherence to project standards. Ensure tools, equipment and materials on hand are appropriate and available to perform the job efficiently and economically. Perform take offs for material and labor and assist with estimates. Provide project update reports. Use of BlueBeam software for reviewing, marking up, and collaborating on construction and project documents. - Coordinate and assist in applicable inspections and testing throughout the course of a construction project. This includes scheduling and assisting the Inspector Of Record at major mile-stones of a project to insure all construction phases meet building code and fire life safety requirements; scheduling and assisting Environmental Health & Safety in testing of existing site conditions for hazardous material prior to construction; routinely meet with Architect of Record and Construction Manager to discuss in-field design changes when needed; actively participate in State Fire Marshall inspections through the course of the project up and to certificate of occupancy; and Prepare and write Requests for Information (RFIs) to clarify project specifications, plans, or requirements. Present RFIs clearly to the Facilities Project Supervisor and Manager for review and further action.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
Ability to perform skilled work at a journey man level with a thorough knowledge of materials, methods, and tools used in new construction, repairs and renovations. Able to use and manipulate machinery and hand tools associated with maintenance and construction to meet the customer’s expectations in an excellent manner. Working knowledge of safety orders of the Industrial Accident Commission dealing with carpentry, heating, electrical, plumbing, and other mechanical systems. Ability to read, interpret, and work from plans, drawings, and specifications. Ability to estimate time and materials needed. Ability to maintain records and retrieve data related to work performed using manual and or computerized record keeping software. Ability to follow procedural oral and written directions. Ability to provide instruction to unskilled and semi-skilled assistants. Ability to analyze and respond appropriately to emergency situations. Ability to lead instruct and coordinate the work of small group or crew of skilled and semi-skilled workers. Able to climb ladders and work in high/confined spaces. Ability to carry up to 50 lbs. 75 feet and or up to two flights of stairs. Ability to recognizing the need and utilize the use of proper safety guidelines including review of MSDS, following of all instruction noted in the installation manuals and wearing the required PPE for specific tasks.

Education and Experience
• Equivalent to a high school diploma and two years of experience as a journey-level carpenter that included work coordination responsibilities required.
• Equivalent to four years’ experience of increasing responsibilities leading to journey-level skills in carpentry or another related mechanical field or facilities/building trade that includes lead work coordination and execution of new construction, repairs and renovations and assisting in providing quality control of contracted services in a university setting is preferred.
• Proficient in the use of BlueBeam software for reviewing, marking up, and collaborating on construction and project documents or the ability to learn within the first year is preferred.
Physical Summary
Heavy work - Job involves lifting more than 40 pounds. Approximately half of the incumbent's time will be spent walking, standing, squatting, kneeling, or climbing

Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department’s fiscal resources.
Hiring Range:
CSU Classification Salary Range: The CSU Classification Salary Range for this position is $5,998 - $8,737 per month.

Time Base
1.0 time-base, 40 hours per week.
Duration of Appointment
