(Administrative Support Coordinator I)

Compensation and Benefits

Anticipated Hiring Salary: $3,505 per month 

Full CSU Classification Salary Range: $3,505 - $5,508 per month

  • This is a full-time (equivalent to 40 hours per week), probationary, non-exempt position.
  • Area of consideration is limited to on-campus, state funded employees only.

The CSU system provides a comprehensive benefit package that includes medical, dental and vision plans, membership in the California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS), sick and vacation time, and 14 paid holidays a year. Job Summary

Under the general supervision of the Farm Manager, the purpose of this position is to provide daily administrative support to the Farm Manager and the Farm Machinery Center (FMC) Shop Supervisor for the University Agricultural Laboratory (UAL)/Agricultural Operations Office in the Jordan College of Agricultural Sciences and Technology. The Administrative Coordinator performs more substantial administrative support functions and coordination responsibilities.

 

Key Qualifications

  • Thorough knowledge of office methods, procedures, and standard practices, including principles of customer service.
  • Thorough knowledge of English grammar, spelling and punctuation.
  • Knowledge of office systems and ability to use office technology, equipment, systems, and software packages (Microsoft Office Suite, Google applications, email, internet).
  • Working knowledge of budget practices and procedures.
  • Ability to communicate clearly both orally and in writing and draft/compose correspondence and standard reports.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills at all levels with the ability to work effectively as part of a team and contribute to the department, school and university.
  • Ability to perform standard business math, such as calculate ratios and percentages, track financial data, and make simple projections.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships within and outside the work group and serve as a liaison for the unit to other academic departments including those at a higher level and those sensitive or confidential in nature.
  • Learn and interpret a wide variety of complex operations and academic policies and procedures and support the mission of the department, school, and university.
  • Work independently and use sound judgment and discretion in establishing effective business processes and meeting deadlines.
  • Independently organize and prioritize multiple work assignments and projects required in all major duties and responsibilities.
  • Use and quickly learn new office support technology systems and software packages.
  • Troubleshoot office technology (e.g. printer, copier) systems along with coordinating other general office support and maintenance activities.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively across cultural boundaries and work harmoniously with diverse groups of students, faculty, and staff.
  • Ability to lead and delegate to student assistants.
  • Demonstrated ability to deal appropriately with confidential information and exercise good judgment on sensitive matters.
  • Effectively organize and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced team-oriented environment with frequent interruptions.
  • Ability to work with faculty, students, staff and administrators from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds.

Education and Experience

  • Equivalent to the completion of a high school program, technical/vocational program.
  • Three years of progressive office administrative or clerical experience with a wide variety of duties and responsibilities.
    • Preferred Skills:
      • Ability to work in a team environment supporting all the Ag Operations diverse objectives.
      • Ability to effectively handle a broad range of interpersonal contacts, including those at a higher level and those sensitive in nature.
      • Demonstrated ability to learn relevant agriculture-related terms, practices and needs.

 

Department Summary

Fresno State’s Agricultural Operations facility is comprised of offices, machine shops and a large yard area where it stores, maintains, services and repairs all vehicles, equipment and machinery for the Fresno State campus.  The Agricultural Operations manager is responsible for day-to-day maintenance and operational support of the University Agricultural Laboratory (UAL), which includes the 1,000-acre campus farm.
