Compensation and Benefits

Anticipated Hiring Salary Range: $3,680 - $3,864 per month

Full CSU Classification Salary Range: $3,680 - $5,263 per month

  • This is a full-time (equivalent to 40 hours per week), probationary, non-exempt position.

The CSU system provides a comprehensive benefit package that includes medical, dental and vision plans, membership in the California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS), sick and vacation time, and 15 paid holidays a year. Job Summary

The Mail Services Clerk performs a variety of duties under immediate supervision. These duties include collecting and processing of mail, operation of mail carts and computers, use of postage meters and scales, and maintaining of records. Additional duties include assisting customers when picking up print jobs and answering customers’ questions regarding mail or print jobs, use of shipping software, and assisting with monthly billing processes for print and mail.

 

Key Qualifications

  • Maintain knowledge of shipping methods and techniques.
  • Maintain knowledge of postal regulations and classifications.
  • Knowledge of general mathematical calculations; alphabetical, numerical, and non-numerical filing, indexing and cross-reference methods.
  • A history of regular attendance and positive performance evaluations.
  • Ability to:
    • Learn and retain regulations and know all mail routes and stops.
    • Plan and organize work to meet the daily needs of the campus community.
    • Assist campus departments regarding postal regulations and requirements for mail and shipping classifications.
    • Write legibly to log information related to receipt and delivery of mail and parcels, code, sort, post and check materials.
    • Understand and follow verbal and written instructions; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with staff and the public.
    • Recognize and maintain confidentiality of information in compliance with departmental regulations.
    • Operate and maintain routine office equipment.
    • Lift or move up to 50 pounds.
    • Demonstrates experience with answering phones with multiple lines and customer service.
    • Demonstrates the ability to work independently as required, using initiative, discretion, and good judgement, in performing clerical work of average complexity.
    • Must demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to work with the general public, faculty, staff, and students in a competent, diplomatic and open- communication style.

Education and Experience

  • One year of experience in general office clerical work, stock clerk work or delivery service work, or experience in a Post Office.
    • Preferred Qualifications:
      • Three or more years of commercial mail experience in a high-volume large customer base organization.
      • Three or more years of experience in a large department-based business that provides individual mail sorting tasks.
      • Three or more years of experience in a fast-paced mail organization.
