Work Schedule

Flexible: five (5) hours per week; Monday – Friday, 8:00am – 10:00pm (some weekend availability may be necessary). Schedule includes required weekly meetings on Fridays (tentatively 11:00am – 12:00pm).

Job Summary

Position breakdown:
•1 hour (20%) – weekly meeting with Program Leads
•1 hour (20%) – email and phone call communication
•3 hours (60%) – Assist staff with in-Person meetings with mentees (individual, group, or events that are face-to-face or virtual)
Responsibilities:
•Assist staff with Serving up to 10 mentees individually and in social events throughout the full Summer 2025, Fall 2026 - Spring 2026 academic year
•Assist staff with Facilitating activities that lead to an increase in self-efficacy, resilience, connection to the university and the college, and learning how to navigate resources
•Assist staff with Providing intentional and individualized mentorship to mentees on a bi-weekly basis, for a minimum of a 30-minute mentoring session
•Develop, execute, and engage in ice breakers and conversation themes
•Communicate and interact with mentees via communication technology platforms and in-person
•Provide staff with assistance, support, and encouragement to mentees
•Provide appropriate referrals within the College of Business and Economics and across campus
•Assist staff with Encouraging and organize mentee attendance at campus-related events as determined in consultation with Program Leads
•Serve as a role model and reliable resource by introducing mentees to University programs, services, and activities
•Uphold confidentiality based on the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)
•Attend mandatory orientation (tentatively Wednesday, August 16th, 9:00am – 1:00pm) and complete all required University trainings
•Attend regular group meetings with Program Leads and other Business Peer Mentors to debrief and develop strategies for engagement
•Work cooperatively and collaboratively with other Business Peer Mentors and Program Leads

Minimum Qualifications

Ability to learn and perform assigned work; follow oral instructions; work cooperatively with faculty, staff, and other students; communicate effectively with all levels; and read and write English at a level appropriate to the position.

Required Qualifications

• Current student at CSUF who has completed at least one semester and is enrolled/registered (fees paid) in a current regular semester as a continuing student
• Current undergraduate business major at CSUF enrolled in a minimum of seven (7) units for Fall 2024
• Has a graduation date of Spring 2025 or later
• In good academic standing (not on academic notice, continued notice, academic disqualification), and maintain a 2.0 in all GPAs (major, concentration, cumulative, and CSUF)
• Have declared their concentration
• Be available to work five (5) hours per week, including weekly meetings on Fridays (tentatively 11:00am – 12:00pm)
• Student who is authorized to work in the United States and can provide employment eligibility documents
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
• Strong time-management and organizational skills
• Ability to utilize an empathy-driven approach while building relationships
• Work comfortably with people from diverse backgrounds
• Ability to identify new solutions to creatively solve problems
• Operate productively without constant direct supervision
• Ability to make critical decisions in compliance with the program goals
